“As a loyal lover of Ontario pinot noir, I have to give this BC version from Sperling a great deal of credit as it exhibits great restraint in the face of so much glorious fruit. The tension, authenticity and purity of flavour is notable. Showing gentle maturity and a delightful textural mouthfeel, this pinot noir also has enough acidity to see it into the next half decade. “60” is a nod to Guy’s 60 goals scored in 1978, and to the 60 months of lees aging of this traditional method Brut sparkling. Beautiful bubbles & presentation, each bottle signed by Guy Lafleur himself & in an elegant engraved box.
When Guy Lafleur wanted to celebrate select Canadian vintners, he contacted Sperling Vineyards owners, Ann Sperling and Peter Gamble to help him find excellent hand crafted small lots to share with his fans and admirers. The results are a Niagara grown Grand Vin red blend from barrels hand selected from the cellar, and this exquisite Blanc de blancs vintage sparkling made by the team at Sperling Vineyards. Honouring their relationship with Guy, Peter and Ann were prepared to share their finest wine en tirage for this signature release.

Winemaking: We hand harvested and sorted across our vibrating sorting table. 25% of the stemmed grapes were skin fermented with wild yeast for 2-3 days, then pressed to give more depth and texture to the final wine. The two lots were blended collaboratively with Ann Sperling and Julie Peglau who chose to include a tiny percentage of Riesling from our 1978 planting.
VEGAN & GLUTEN-FREE
“There is no dosage in this directly motivational Blanc de Blancs and plenty of potential palate weight with thanks to 30 months spent on the lees. There is something top single-vineyard cru Alsatian about the savoury and searing coolness in this style, as if it were more than just the sum of chardonnay parts, like some hypothetical pinot blanc and perhaps auxerrois. There is some reductiveness, a lovely washed rind cheese, lemon scrape melted into curd and fine bitters. The flavours are really quite lemony tart. Striking really....you have to admire Ann Sperling's "decision based on lees contact time." ... 92 pts

Nothing says linger, more than this perfectly balanced LH wine. With extra time on the vine, both flavour and acid-freshness are intensified. Linger longer over nuts, dried fruit, aged cheddar or even creme caramel.
NATURAL, ORGANIC, VEGAN & GLUTEN-FREE
“Ann Sperling has always pushed then widened the envelope for more natural organic, wild ferment wines in Canada. Her Vision series in B.C. gives her more experimental and holistic tendencies a home. This pinot gris was 95% whole cluster fermented on its skins, drawing out the grape's natural colour and the stemmy orange. It has a generous quite herbal, tea, camphor and dried citrus peel nose. It is medium bodied, notably dry and quite bitter with sharp acids. A very savory (non fruity) wine with good complexity and length. Oh and by the way, it throws a heavy sediment. Tasted April 2020.”

“This old vine, organic Foch was planted in the 1960s by winemaker Ann Sperling’s (above) dad Bert. It produces low yields with berries that are high in concentration. It’s tight on the nose, but swirl away and it will reveal a range of cassis, anise, black currants and earth followed by earthy/forest floor notes. It’s highly structured and complex on the palate but the fruit pops with dark berries, a touch of kirsch, licorice, savoury herbs, earth and depth through a long and lively finish. History in a bottle here.” 92 pts
